Brighter Future needs the Cleanest Energy

PROJECT CONVENORS

The Peace Equity Access for Community Empowerment Foundation, Inc. (Peace and Equity Foundation or PEF) was established in October 2001 to uplift poor Filipino communities through sustainable livelihoods and improved access to essential services, backed by a PhP1.3-billion endowment fund generated from the Poverty Eradication and Alleviation Certificates (PEACe Bonds). Early on, the foundation identified 28 priority areas guided by poverty maps and socioeconomic indicators, focusing its resources where they were needed most. Partnership and Access Centers (PACs) were set up to collaborate directly with local organizations, cooperatives, and faith-based groups, allowing PEF to deliver targeted assistance. Over time, the foundation shifted from a commodity-focused approach to supporting social enterprises as a catalyst for inclusive growth, enabling it to refine and scale sustainable income opportunities within specific communities. Today, PEF remains committed to being a catalyst for positive change, leveraging its social enterprise-led strategy to achieve lasting impact in poverty reduction across the Philippines.

The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), originating from the Mindanao Economic Development Council (MEDCo) established in 1992, was institutionalized through Republic Act 9996 in 2010 to promote holistic socio-economic development across Mindanao. Guided by a vision of a peaceful, integrated, and globally competitive region, MinDA coordinates and facilitates strategic planning, inter-regional collaboration, and investment initiatives to foster sustainable growth and address urgent development needs. Upholding integrity, patriotism, and exemplary leadership, MinDA aligns its operations with international quality standards, ensuring regulatory compliance and client satisfaction. With competencies in strategic planning, promotion, facilitation, and partnership-building, MinDA actively positions Mindanao in regional endeavors such as the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA), driving inclusive prosperity for both the island and its neighbors.

The Ateneo de Davao University–Mindanao Renewable Energy R&D Center (ADDU-MREC) is a pioneering hub dedicated to advancing sustainable energy solutions for Mindanao. Guided by a vision of becoming a leading renewable energy research institution, it promotes scientific knowledge, fosters technological innovation, and cultivates interdisciplinary partnerships that drive socio-economic growth. To achieve its mission, ADDU-MREC sets strategic goals that include empowering partner institutions to conduct high-quality research, identifying emerging energy opportunities through resource assessments, and monitoring the implementation of the Renewable Energy Act of 2008. These efforts are bolstered by active advocacy for policy reforms, support for the commercialization of new technologies, and strong ties with technology service offices—ensuring intellectual property protection and evidence-based engagement with government platforms. Through energy-focused events and programs, ADDU-MREC cultivates entrepreneurial initiatives, ultimately building a robust, sustainable energy ecosystem that enables long-term prosperity in the region.
